Table of Contents

In Episode 4, Tobenna chats with Jon Knope. Jon is a contributor at Ride Share Guy and is famous for documenting his switch from Uber/Lyft to becoming a truck driver. Jon shares the differences between rideshare driving and truck driving.

In this episode, Jon breaks down:

  • The difference between an Over-the-road (OTR) Trucker and a Local Trucker
  • The pay similarities and differences between Riseshare Drivers and OTR drivers
  • Company drivers vs Owner-Operators
  • How companies can make trucking attractive to the younger generation of drivers

Tobenna Arodiogbu: What are your thoughts on autonomous trucking?

Jon Knope: I think it’s definitely going to change the driving experience to have a computer in there to do 98% of the job. It will definitely require a shift in mindset. One of the things I worry about is if you have these big megacarriers building out huge fleets of A.I. assisted trucks that come with cheaper insurance rates and potentially longer hours of service. I do wonder how that will impact owner operators down the line if megacarriers can operate fancy new fleets that are lower cost per mile.
