Get Ready for the 2024 CVSA International Roadcheck on May 14-16

Table of Contents

This year, International Roadcheck will have two focus areas:

  • Tractor protection systems
  • Controlled substance and alcohol possession/use.

Over the three days of International Roadcheck, inspectors will conduct their routine North American Standard Level I Inspection, which is a thorough 37-step inspection procedure consisting of the examination of vehicle components and driver operating credentials, hours-of-service documentation, DACH status, seat belt usage, and for alcohol and/or drug impairment.

A passed level 1 inspection could get you a CVSA decal, which means you have a lower probability of being inspected for the next three months.

The maintenance portion is aimed at the tractor protection valve, trailer supply valve and anti-bleed back valve, which may be overlooked during trip and roadside inspections.

During the inspection of tractor protection system components, the inspector will:

  1. Ensure the wheel chocks are still in place and have the driver release all the brakes by pressing dash valves
  2. Have the driver carefully remove the gladhands and allow air to escape
  3. Ensure the air stops leaking from the supply line with at least 20 psi remaining
  4. Listen and/or feel for any leaking air at the gladhand couplers on the trailer
  5. Request a full service brake application by the driver
  6. Listen and/or feel for leaks from both airline

Air escaping from either the supply/emergency or service/control gladhand line will put the vehicle out of service.

The driver focus will be on the presence or use of controlled substances and alcohol. While checking for the presence of alcohol or controlled substances during an inspection, inspectors will:

  1. Observe the driver for signs of alcohol or controlled substance use and/or impairment
  2. Examine the cab and trailer for alcohol or controlled substances
  3. Conduct a query in the DACH (for inspections in the U.S.)

We appreciate all of the hard work you do out there in helping CloudTrucks stay a safe carrier!

Remember clean level 1 and 2 inspections will be rewarded with $150!!
